A rare set of original demo recordings documenting The Beta Band’s creative development during the period leading up to their self-titled debut album.

The four DAT tapes contain a substantial collection of early recordings, alternate mixes and works-in-progress, providing a direct window into the band’s writing and recording process before songs reached their final released form. Handwritten track listings reference recordings including “The Hard One,” “Round The Bend,” “It’s Not Too Beautiful,” “The Beta Band Rap,” “The Cows Wrong,” “Broken Up A Ding Dong” and additional session material.

Several tapes are labelled as mixes, mix revisions and session DATs, indicating their use as working studio references during the production process. Together they chart the evolution of key songs from early ideas and rough arrangements through to more developed recordings.

Preserved within producer Chris Allison’s archive, these tapes offer a rare opportunity to hear The Beta Band’s creative process as it unfolded in the studio and represent an important surviving record from one of the most influential British alternative groups of the late 1990s.

Insurance: For all orders over $200 we will include 1.3% on top of the hammer price to cover insurance.

The bidding process
