How can we help?

Collections: Overview

What are Collections?

Collections are a fusion of our trademark storytelling, with auctions and unique collector items that you can buy directly from artists, labels, and creatives.

Within each Collection you'll be able to:

  1. Read, watch and listen to the deepest music stories
  2. Bid-on and buy collector items directly from artists, labels and creatives
  3. Secure unique, limited-edition products
Why are you launching Collections?

Wax Poetics has been preserving and growing music culture for 23 years; telling music stories with passion and depth, helping collectors and fans connect closer with the music and artists they love.

We're creating a new way for fans to connect with artists.

We're creating a new revenue stream for artists and a way for them to tell their story more deeply.

And we're building a new model that will create new, bigger opportunities for our artist, writer and creative community.

How do Collections work?

Once the Collection goes live, as well as discovering our stories you'll be able to:

  • Bid on auction items: These work like any other auction platform. Register an account to make a bid. We'll keep you updated on emails and SMS (if registered). There's more info on how auctions work in the FAQs below.
  • Purchase 'buy-it-now' items: You'll need to move quick on these. They are fixed-price collector items that come directly from the artist themselves.
  • Secure limited edition products: These are products that we co-create with artists. They're limited-run. Once they're gone, they're gone.

Pro tip: Make sure you have a Wax Poetics account before the Collection goes live so you can be first in line once the Collection goes live.

Who are Collections for? I'm not really a 'collector'.

Collections are open to everyone. Young, old, digital streamers, experienced vinyl collectors, first time buyers, fans, super-fans, and more. All you really need is an interest in music. If you've already come this far through our FAQs, then that's probably you.

We aim to make our Collections as accessible to everyone as possible.

Where do I find upcoming Collections?

You can check out our Collections page for all upcoming Collections. However, the best way to stay up to date is to join our mailing list and keep a close eye on our socials.

How long do Collections run for?

This varies depending on each Collection so best to check out the Collection pages for more details.

Will items on the Collection still be available once the Collection has ended?

Generally not. You miss it, you miss out. However some Collections and items may vary, so make sure you keep up to date with all the latest information via our emails.

Are you still doing print?

Yes! We will be releasing print journals, zines and more from 2025 onwards around our Collections. You can also find a number of our back issues available on our Store.

Collections: Selling with us

I have some items I would like to sell. How do I take part?

Generally we work directly with artists, labels, and creatives. We have very limited space available for the next few months and are highly selective about who we work with. However, if you are interested and have item(s) you think we should feature - or you're an artist - then please reach out to collections@waxpoetics.com with more details and we'll get back to you. We'd love to hear from you!

Collections: Auction items

How do I bid on an item?

Simply create an account, and your account will be ready to place a bid.

Are there any verification requirements for bidding on an Auction item?

No. But please be aware that if you bid on an item and win the item, you will be required to pay for the item once the Collection has closed.

If you do not pay for the item, it will be offered to the next highest bidder and you will be banned from taking part in future Collections.

What is the Reserve Price?

The minimum amount the item must sell for. If the reserve price is not met, the Auction ends without a winner.

I placed a bid. What happens next?

You will be notified by email or SMS (if registered) about the status of your bid. You will receive notifications for the following:

  • If you place a bid successfully
  • If you are outbid
  • If you win the item
I won an auction item. What happens next?

Congratulations! You will receive an email confirming you have won from us.

We will then share final payment for you to complete. You must complete payment or come back to us within 48 hours. If you haven't paid after this time, we may cancel your winning bid, and the next highest bidder will be offered the item. If you do not pay for an item, you will not be permitted to bid on future Collections.

How long will it take for my item to be delivered.

We aim to ship all items within 14 days of the Collection ending. We cannot guarantee delivery times as locations of both the seller and buyer vary. Please check the item product page for more info before bidding.

How do I check the status of my bid?

You can always check the status of you bids in your Account page.

What are the Bid Increments?

We use bid increments to ensure that all bid increases are kept fair. These will be set differently depending on the specific item you are bidding on. Please check the specific item for more details.

Can I cancel a bid?

No. Once you place a bid you need to be prepared to pay for it if you win. In exceptional circumstances, please reach out to info@waxpoetics.com in case you need additional support.

What are the additional fees I need to know about?

It is important to note that if you win an auction item, the final price you will need to pay will include the below - in addition to the final sale price:

  • Buyer premium - We charge 15% on top of the final sale price (more about this in the question below)
  • Shipping, handling & insurance - More information on shipping can be found in the Shipping section below or on the individual product page.
  • Import duties and taxes - This will be payable by you (the buyer) upon delivery of your item. We cannot handle this on your behalf. You need to make yourself aware of your local import duties and taxes payable before bidding, and be prepared to pay them upon receiving your item.

If you want more information on what these final costs, then please reach out to info@waxpoetics.com and we will try to help.

What is the Buyer Premium?

The Buyer Premium is an additional 15% service charge of the winning bid added to the final sale price. For example, if your winning bid for an item is $100, you will pay $115 plus any shipping, handling, insurance, and tax. We charge a buyer premium in order to build the Collection experiences and continue to deliver in-depth storytelling around the artists and items themselves.

How much do sellers (artists, creatives, labels etc) take from the total sale price?

We are here to support artists and want to ensure they take the maximum revenue possible. They will take a minimum of 80% of the revenue from Auction Items. The % that we (Wax Poetics) take goes directly into production, running costs and marketing.

I have a discount code. Can I use it on these items?

No. Sorry.

Can I return an item I won on auction?

Unfortunately we cannot accept any returns on Auction items. If you believe that the item you have ordered is not as described or advertised then please reach out to info@waxpoetics.com and we will deal with this on an individual basis.

Shipping, duties & taxes

What shipping providers do you use?

We work with major shipping providers as well as local services, depending on the item and Collection. For Collections we do this on a case by case basis depending on the items size, location and destination.

How are Collection items packed?

We work with specialist packing teams to ensure the items arrive to you in the best condition. The packing cost will generally be added to your final payable amount once you win the item.

Are duties and taxes paid for ahead of shipping?

For Collection items, you need to be prepared to pay duties upon receipt of your item. We do not pay for these upfront.

Are orders tracked?

Collection items are tracked.

Back issues are not.

Why don't you cover import duties and taxes?

Import duties and restrictions vary by country so we cannot cover these before shipping Collection items. It is your responsibility as the buyer to make sure you are aware of all local duties and restrictions before placing a bid or buying a Collection item.

Returns, refunds and exchanges

Can I get a refund on my order?

Collection items:

We cannot accept any returns unless in exceptional circumstances. It is important to note that we are a platform / intermediary between you and the artist. If there is a discrepancy between what was advertised and what arrived, then we will do our best to solve this between both parties.

Store items:

Print on demand back issues are printed to order, so cannot be returned.
