Coldplay - Pre-Studio Demo Cassette
One of the earliest known recordings in the Chris Allison Coldplay archive, this original cassette was supplied directly to Allison before formal studio sessions had begun. Labeled simply “Coldplay Tracks”, it captures the group at a crucial stage of development, documenting their songwriting and rehearsal process before entering the studio to record professionally.
The cassette contains approximately nine recordings, including early demo versions of songs that would later become key parts of Coldplay’s catalogue. Among them are rehearsal recordings of ‘Shiver’ and ‘We Never Change’, preserved here before their subsequent studio treatment. The tape also includes several songs that were already officially released, alongside material that appears never to have progressed beyond the demo stage.
Of particular interest are ‘Ode To Deodorant’ and a track with the lyric ‘Would I Ever Let You Down’, songs that do not appear in Coldplay’s officially released catalogue and may represent previously unheard recordings from the band’s formative years.
As a pre-production reference tape provided to the producer prior to recording sessions, the cassette offers a rare glimpse into Coldplay’s creative process before the release of The Blue Room EP and Parachutes. Few surviving artefacts document the band’s earliest rehearsals and songwriting with this level of proximity.
