Before streaming, the mixtape was how new sounds traveled, passed from hand to hand and tape to tape. This DJ X-Cell cassette carries rare and unreleased material from artists in the Wu-Tang Clan’s extended orbit, a snapshot of hip-hop as it moved through the underground in the ’90s. It comes from Peter Guagenti, who collected it while working in marketing for record labels.
