Don Blackman’s self-titled 1982 debut LP for Arista/GRP, colloquially known to fans as “The Blackman Album,” is a certified funk classic which seems to grow more celebrated and beloved with each year, thanks to timeless jams like “Heart’s Desire,” “You Ain’t Hip” and Don’s signature tune, “Holding You, Loving You,” which has been sampled by the likes of Jay-Z, Slum Village and Kaytranada, just to name a few. Despite ever-deepening demand, the album has been in and out of print on vinyl for years and has never received a domestic CD release in the USA. The ever-resourceful Don did his part to fill the void in the form of these CD-R copies he bootlegged and sold himself from out of the trunk of his car, beginning in the 2000s. These are the last remaining copies from Don’s personal stash of black-market Blackman CDs.
