Tee Scott – Better Days Private Party Invitation 45 (1975)
This rare 7-inch acetate was personally pressed by Tee Scott as a private invitation to his October 19, 1975 party at Better Days (316 West 49th Street, New York City).
Instead of issuing a printed flyer, Scott produced a 45 RPM stamped “Not For Sale,” using the format of a record as the invitation itself. On the recording, he speaks directly to listeners over MFSB’s “Love Is The Message,” inviting guests to attend the event, scheduled “from 6PM to 4AM”. The choice of track - already foundational within early disco culture - situates the piece firmly within the legacy of mid-1970s New York nightlife.
Better Days was an important Midtown Manhattan club during disco’s formative period, operating alongside other key venues that shaped the city’s dancefloor culture. This club culture relic reflects the DIY, community-centred nature of the scene.
The record was later rediscovered in Victor Simonelli’s personal archive, having remained stored in a private crate for decades. It is believed to be one-of-a-kind, with no known duplicate copies. A sonic invitation created by Tee Scott.
