Drawing inspiration from the legendary valve compressors that shaped countless classic recordings, The Senator is designed to deliver smooth, musical compression alongside the warmth and harmonic character prized by recording engineers. Highly regarded for mix bus and mastering duties, boutique Vari-Mu compressors remain among the most desirable pieces of analogue studio equipment, valued for their ability to add depth, cohesion and polish to a final mix. With only approximately 30 units ever produced, The Senator is also an exceptionally rare piece of studio hardware, rarely encountered on the secondary market.

This unit comes directly from the personal studio of Jimmy Douglass. Throughout a career spanning some of the most influential recordings in modern music, Douglass worked with artists including Aaliyah, Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Aretha Franklin and Led Zeppelin. According to Douglass, this piece formed part of the studio setup used across numerous major recording and mixing sessions, including work associated with Missy Elliott’s Supa Dupa Fly and Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds. As such, it represents a direct connection to the sound of late-1990s and early-2000s R&B, hip-hop and pop music.

Insurance: For all orders over $200 we will include 1.3% on top of the hammer price to cover insurance.
