Signed Roland TB-303 synthesizer from Prince Paul’s personal studio (1990s–2000s)
This TB-303 spent time in Prince Paul’s personal studio throughout the 1990s and 2000s, reflecting his instinct for surrounding himself with unconventional instruments that pushed far beyond the traditional hip-hop production toolkit. Released by Roland in 1981 as the "Bassline," the TB-303 was originally marketed as a practice tool to simulate bass guitar accompaniment, before being discontinued by 1984.
Later rediscovered by Chicago house pioneers, the TB-303’s squelchy, resonant sound helped define acid house and cemented the instrument as one of the most influential synthesizers in electronic music history. This example stands as part of the studio toolkit behind Prince Paul’s genre-defining work with De La Soul, Gravediggaz, and beyond.
