Lot Summary

A rare limited-edition lithograph print produced exclusively for an in-store event celebrating the release of Phrenology, The Roots’ fifth studio album. Only 100 prints were produced, available solely to customers who purchased the CD at a Virgin Megastore in-store event on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, approximately two weeks after the album’s release.

The design expands on Tom Huck’s original album artwork, presenting in-profile portraits of all six members of The Roots arranged in a horizontal matrix alongside the iconic Phrenology head. This example is hand-autographed by all band members, each signing their own illustrated portrait in black Sharpie.

Jay Stewart was present at the event while working as a marketing representative at MCA Records and secured this signed copy firsthand. Signed examples are exceptionally scarce, with fewer than the full edition believed to have been distributed.
